![]()
Certitude, our parent company, is now presenting quarterly Excellence Awards for Support for Living and Southside Partnership and they are replacing Support for Living's Excellence Awards. The fourth and final round for this year of Certitude’s Excellence Awards have been judged and awarded! See below. For further details about the Awards click here.
The Michael Rosen Award
All nominees throughout the year have been entered for the annual Michael Rosen Award which has just been announced. To see the winners please visit the Certitude website.
The Leadership team were hugely impressed with the quality of the nominations and the diversity of the work being carried out across both organisations. Everyone nominated should be justifiably very proud of themselves. Thank you for your commitment and thank you to those who made the nominations - for appreciating excellent work that deserves a bit of recognition!
Final Quarter Awards - June to August 2011
The fourth and final round of Certitude Excellence Awards for this year was judged at the beginning of September. Again, the nominations reflected some truly excellent work going on which is genuinely making a difference to people – so congratulations to both winners and nominees. MAKING A DIFFERENCE AWARD
Nominees:
• Emmeline Tahe
• Davey Starkey
• Gianluca Zucchelli and Val Austen
• Natalie Bishop
• Allyson Clancy
And the winners are GIANLUCA ZUCCHELLI and VAL AUSTEN for supporting someone to move from Grange Road into their own home ensuring they had choice and control. Overseeing the move into the Grange Road vacancy in a really person centred way for someone who had found their last move really traumatic. Also, three people are starting college for the first time.
BEST COLLEAGUE AWARD

• Roy Morris
• James Perwone
• Alkesh Arora
• Charlotte O’Neill
• Karen Carr and Teresa Neal
And the winner is JAMES PERWONE who, even though new to social care, and during a period of his service having no management and new/recently tupe’d staff, he worked through personal illness to support the team through this difficult period, showing great responsibility.
COMMUNITY CHAMPTION AWARD
Nominees:
• Debbie Wallace
• Terry O’Neill
And the winner is TERRY O'NEILL who, after an urgent referral from care management, supported a customer, who previously has received no support outside his family, to get his own allotment, and negotiated with London Underground for this person to see where drivers train, use the simulator and see a mock up station – one of this customer’s main interests.
Third Quarter Awards - March to May 2011
MAKING A DIFFERENCE AWARD
Nominees:
• Star Road staff team
• 21 Haymill Close staff team
• 173 Crofton Road staff team
• Chris Binger
• Richard Dawes and Lewis Wallis
• Lauren Johnson
• 246 Haymill Close staff team
• Undeeda Drive and Oaklands Road staff teams
• Canning Road staff team
• Louise Poole, Yvonne Hawtin and Harriet Michael-Phillips
• Samy Yoguratunam
We have joint winners this time: The 246 HAYMILL CLOSE STAFF TEAM and CHRIS BINGER.
The
246 Haymill Close staff team recently supported someone to die
peacefully and with dignity at home. Their support of this person
started two years ago when they were diagnosed with a terminal illness.
They have truly reflected the true meaning of the term person centred
and have worked in partnership with the family and health professionals
to make sure the persons wishes were respected until the end.
Chris was nominated for a couple of things including acting up as a
manager at a time when the service is closing so there were a lot of
anxieties for staff, families and the individuals themselves. Chris has
also been working with one particular person for the last year with
intensive interaction. This person’s sister told of the difference this
had made to their relationship in that he now makes eye contact and
holds her hand. Its felt that this change is largely due to Chris’s
consistent Intensive Interaction work.
BEST COLLEAGUE AWARD
Nominees:
• Ray Booker
• Adama Hassan
• David Pinder
• Teresa Clark
• Mary Nkwo
And the winner is TERESA CLARK.
Teresa has trained a hand full of volunteers to an excellent standard
and supported them to feel confident and work along side experienced
team members. Teresa was nominated for being an inspirational leader and
having a huge impact on the lives of the volunteers she manages and
trains, always going the extra mile. She spends whatever time is needed
to go through work tasks with her volunteers and ensure they learn and
get support. She has a positive attitude and by being so open people
feel comfortable in asking for support.
COMMUNITY CHAMPION AWARD
Nominees:
• Jake Meyer and Nicole Griffiths
And the winners are JAKE MEYER AND
NICOLE GRIFFITHS for the brilliant work they recently undertook
to ensure customers could attend, flourish and contribute to the
‘Hardest Hit’ demonstration. Jake and Nicole not only drummed up
interest in the demonstration by emailing colleagues across Southside
but they also provided opportunities for customers and staff to become
involved in other ways. If some customers were not up to facing the
throngs of people in central London, then they also had the opportunity
to attend the banner and poster making workshop which was open to all
customers and staff in the organisation. In this workshop they supported
customers to think up slogans that they would like to use on their own
banners and placards which they were then supported them to design and
make themselves. They also made a large bright red Southside Banner as
the focal point for the group who attended the rally on the Wednesday.
Involving customers in this way was a great example ensuring ‘people are
at the heart of what we do’.
