Training and Development

Why do we offer training?

Training and Development is vitally important to Support for Living. We invest a great deal of time and effort into ensuring that you are well trained for your job. This is because if you are well trained:

What do we offer?

Induction

When joining Support for Living you will attend a 4 week induction. This is split into 2 sections. In the first section you will attend courses that you legally require to work in the service or house you have been assigned to. In the second section you will have more training to further your knowledge and skills. Examples of training courses include:

All induction training is linked to care sector standards. You will also complete a qualification in line with your induction called the Learning Disability Qualification.

Staff who are not in care related jobs (e.g. Human Resources, Finance etc) can access parts of the induction they and their manager feel will be beneficial to them, for example, Fire Awareness or Introduction to Support for Living.

Service Specific

After the induction you may need additional training with other members of your staff team. This may be because a service user’s needs change, or there are changes in how we want to carry out tasks. These could include:

Developmental

If you choose to develop your career with us and get a promotion, we run the Management Development Programme [also open to existing managers]. You can also develop your skills in other areas by becoming an internal trainer with support and training from the Training section.  You also have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications through our NVQ Centre.  Staff not in care related roles have access to the Training and Development Fund, which provides financial support to professional qualifications, and study leave can also be arranged.

In addition…

IIP LogoWe are also an accredited Investor in People, which means we involve our staff in the organisation and it’s improvement and development.

We recognise that the service we provide depends upon people. Therefore, the better the people who work for us, the better support we give to our service users and the better the organisation is.

Support for Living considers the most important investment it makes is in its employees, and Investor in People helps us develop this.
