Treat Me Right!
Support for Living has received funding to work with Ealing Hospital to improve patient experience for people with learning disabilities.
Treat Me Right! comes in response to local concerns and national campaigns regarding the treatment of people with special needs when they enter the hospital system. Often communication difficulties, poor staff training and lack of accessible information lead to tragic results in hospital.
In 2008 Mencap produced a report entitled “Death by Indifference” that highlighted the inequalities and lack of support people with learning disabilities face across NHS Trusts nationally, and the government put the issue firmly on the agenda with its recent paper “Health Care for All”.

Elsa Grigg, Project Manager, has consulted with individuals and local groups and an ideas event was well attended by people with learning disabilities, carers and hospital staff. People shared their experience both good and bad of the hospital and gave their ideas of how the hospital can make improvements. As a result we are now developing awareness training that will be co-delivered by people with learning disabilities.

Ealing
