Out and About
Out and About is a social project aimed at independent adults with learning disabilities in Ealing – primarily people in independent living situations, but also including anyone living with parents, carers, etc – and is designed to encourage them to get ‘out and about’ in the community to access everyday leisure and social facilities.
The aim is to get people to socialise with
their peers in a naturalistic way, away from day centres and support
workers, and build relationships on their own terms with a very minimal
level of support.
We are very proud to showcase our first video. Some members of the group have been very busy making an animated film with Chocolate Films as part of a 2 day workshop. Click here to view.
A list of Out and About events is sent out
every three months to Out and About members, with a range of activities
taking place during the daytime, evening and weekends. Click here
to see our new
January to March 2012 schedule. If you are interested in any of the
activities you can print off the schedule and post it back to Carole
Dukes or you can ring Carole on 07507 196319 or email her at
carole.dukes@supportforliving.org.uk and she will send you a copy in
the post. Typically
there are about two things to do each week that members can choose to
come along to. There are regular events, like coffee mornings,
cinema trips and pub nights that take place in familiar locations to
build familiarity and confidence, alongside day trips further a field to
museums, shows, etc.
In the future we hope to get some volunteers who can support Out and About members to become involved in a wider range of activities.
Out and About has been funded by Ealing Council.
