LD Today exhibition
Staff
were kept busy when we exhibited for the first time as Certitude
Support. Contacts were made and services marketed. There was particular
interest in the health project Treat Me Right! and Lucy Harrison’s video
about Intensive Interaction proved a popular discussion topic. My
Choice, Carers’ Breaks, Travel Support and Shared Lives postcards flew
off the stand and the Certitude pens had all gone by lunchtime, along
with most of the chocolates!

Disability march - the Hardest Hit Protest
On 11 May, Southside Partnership and Support
for Living added their voices to the thousands of disabled people
marching through Westminster to make sure that disabled people had their
voices heard on the plans to reform Disability Living Allowance and cuts
to social care services. The protest, organised by the UK Disabled
People's Council and the Disability Benefits Consortium, comes on the
first anniversary of the formation of the coalition government.

Move to Wesgate
It's
finally happened! After lots of hard work, particularly by Henlie
van Rooyen, Projects Director, and Sam Mason, Office and Facilities
Manager, Allied House finally closed its doors and Westgate has
become the new home for the staff based there. The Finance
Department has, in the main, moved to Lumiere Court, in Balham, but the
HR, Development and Admin functions remain at Westgate.

Is mental health a laughing matter?
Community Care and Mental Health Today have both featured articles commissioned by Southside Partnership about how humour can challenge mental health stigma among prisoners. Read more>> Community Care Mental Health Today
DLA Mobility: sorting the facts from the fiction
The Government says it is committed to social justice for disabled people, and in particular the focus on personalisation and increasing independence for disabled people. However, the removal of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance [DLA], soon to become the Personal Independence Payment [PIP] from people living in residential care, will directly undermine this commitment. Campaigners have produced the DLA mobility report which is being launched on 9 March. A total of 39 charities and organisations, and ADASS have endorsed the report. The report is being sent to key Ministers and MPs.

My Time go racing in the park!

Emma Conder from the Activity and Resource Centre writes: "My Time clients love Companion Cycling in beautiful Bushy Park, one of the Royal parks based in South West London. Companion Cycling is a volunteer run organisation. There are always lovely colours to enjoy, fresh air to breathe and deer to see...as well as hilarity, frantic bell ringing, laughs, fierce competition, tired legs - although some just prefer to enjoy the ride and leave the hard work to other people! And of course there is a good lunch afterwards!"

The Ealing office prepares to move
January
has been a very busy month for the staff at Allied House. They are
all preparing for the move to new offices at Westgate House, Hanger
Lane, Ealing. Henlie Van Rooyen, Projects Director, has been busy
securing the lease and planning the refurbishment process. This
has now begun and, if all goes according to plan, we should be moving
early March. Sam Mason, Office Manager, continues to lead in
encouraging everyone to scan it, shred it, archive it or simply chuck it
- the aim being to go as paperless as we can, thus saving on space and
trees!
